General Site Rules & Regulations
General Rules:
- Rule 0: Rule 0? You're probably thinking that the staff members have finally lost it, but quite the contrary; they've gotten a bit smarter. Rule 0 is here for the simple fact because we know that there are some members out there who will attempt to take advantage of the rules simply because something is worded differently, or because something was mistakenly left out for some reason. To put it simply, do not take advantage of loopholes. This site's staff will treat any such offense as if you were breaking a rule intentionally. If you know that you will most likely get in trouble for doing so, PLEASE DON'T DO IT.
- Rule 1: All members of this Role-play, whether they are a part of the staff or just another Average Joe, are here primarily to have fun in writing short-stories about the subject area that they love and hold dear. Please, do NOT attempt to ruin anyones time here on SGG, and treat everyone with the same level of respect as you would hope to be treated by. I cannot stress to you enough how important this is, hence why it is Rule 1. Anyone caught in violation of this rule, and I mean anyone (including staff), will be instantly warned. This rule also applies to the users of the site's cbox as well.
- Rule 2: All members of this site, whether they are Site Staff or Regular Joe's, will suffer the consequences of breaking any of the rules stated in this topic. Your first offense will be a verbal warning and the removal of the thread in which one of these rules were broken. Next offense will be a fifty percent warn increase with members of the staff moderating all of your future posts. If you do it again, you'll suffer a one week suspension from the site. Hopefully, by then you would have learned your lesson. If you continue to break these rules, further consequences will be determined at that time by a vote from our site administrators.
- Rule 3: Please, do not be offended by anyone or anything that may happen during the course of an IC Role-play. Anything that happens in topics that are IC should remain IC and notbe brought to the OOC forums for rants, raves, flaming or anything of the sort. Just because someone attacked you or took your lunch money while IC does not mean that that person does not like you. Unfortunately, it is just how the topic happened to play out. All complaints and rants with regards to this subject will be widely viewed as pouting and will be ignored; unless someone has broken these rules with the IC topic, in which case the offender will be investigated by the site's staff.
- Rule 4: Do. Not. Spam. If that isn't as clear as crystal to you, then I'm not sure what is. If you spam this board with any kind of adult material, illicit content or useless junk, especially if done out of spite because you didn't get what you want, you will be instantly IP banned. This kind of behavior from our members will NOT be tolerated in any way, shape or form. If your account mistakenly gets hacked, for some unknown reason, all members are permitted to appeal to the sites administrator by e-mail to have your account unblocked. YOUR ACCOUNT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Please, if you feel that you are prone to being hacked, change your password often or remove any cookies your browser might have stored to prevent anyone from gaining access to your account.
- Rule 5: Anything that is written by members here on SGG belong to said members. While the subject area is obviously owned and operated by MGM Studios and the series creators, the content written and posted by the members here on this site about the subject area belong to those members and should not be reproduced anywhere without express permission from the creator. Anyone caught in violation of this rule that are members of SGG will be warned and the content will be taken down immediately. Anyone caught in violation of this rule that are not members will be reported to the said board's staff immediately.
- Rule 6: Real life information should not be solicited by our members or any visiting guests on this board. If you wish to post any kind of real life information, whether it be personal pictures, names, phone numbers, etc. that is your choice. However, any member attempting to gather this information from any unwilling party will be instantly IP banned from this board. This kind of conduct will NOT be tolerated by this site's staff in any way.
- Rule 7: All advertising on this site must be submitted within the Affiliation/Advertising sub-forum located within the SGG Lounge. All proper guidelines must be followed in order for the ad to remain on our board, otherwise it will result in its deletion by a staff member. DO NOT PM ADS TO MEMBERS WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT. Doing so is considered spamming, and if you're reported, you'll face the consequences.
- Rule 8: SGG is an adult gaming site, we do ask that all members who join be at the very least sixteen years of age, meaning the site's rating is M. All members are encouraged to ask a parental figure before deciding to join, just to erase any possible conflict in the future between you and your parents about this Role-play.
- Rule 9: With Rule 8 in effect, this means that any kind of excessively obscene language, sexually explicit materials, et cetera are NOT allowed in any great amount, but is to an extent. If you absolutely must Role-play this type of content to extreme measures for a certain situation, we ask that you confine it to PMs and not post it within view of our other members. Breaking this rule will result in an instant deletion of your topic and warn increase.
Character Creation/Bio Submissions
- Rule 1: When registering here at SGG, members are strongly encouraged to register with the name of the character they will be using throughout the course of the Role-play, rather than with a general username and have several characters under that username. While some may argue that it would work better that way, and in most cases it would, things are done a bit differently here on SGG. For various amounts of reasons, the staff has elected to have each character under a specific username. That's just the way it is, and believe us, for this forum it works better this way.
- Rule 2: All members who are wishing to get involved with the Role-play here on SGG are first required to submit a bio on said characters. Members will not have permission to post in the RP sections of this board until they are first accepted and placed into a specific faction group. *For information regarding ranks and any other intelligence needed to complete your character, please contact your faction leader.*
- Rule 3: If there are any questions on how to complete the character creation sheet, please contact a staff member immediately and they will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
- Rule 4: Please proof-read your bio submission before posting and check for all spelling, punctuation and grammar errors that you might have made. This is extremely important because you wouldn't want something within your bio to come across the wrong way to someone else that might be reading it, even though it makes perfect sense to you. Please attempt to fix any and all errors and please ensure that when you're reading through it the sentences flow nicely and make sense. I cannot stress this enough as many submissions are almost denied because of a few simple errors made by the author.
In-Topic (IC) Guidelines
- Rule 1: When posting, please make a genuine attempt to breach the one hundred word count barrier. Although one hundred words is the minimum required to make a post here on SGG, it is generally viewed as lacking any effort and is criticized by many. It is very easy to post over one hundred, and we, as the staff, encourage you to do so, especially when asking for "Did I?" answers. Posts that are only one hundred words in length will not receive the quality and originality of posts that are say four or five hundred words long.
- Rule 2: Please ensure to proof-read all of your writing before posting your new topic. Please check to make sure that your spelling and grammar is correct before submitting your new post, as this does help others attempting to read what you've just posted. If you post a bunch of run-on sentences together and have poor spelling and grammar, then you run the risk of others mis-interpreting what you've just wrote. This is a very important part of RPing here on SGG. If you need any help in enhancing your writing, please PM a staff member.
- Rule 3: God-modding will not be tolerated here on SGG. If you do not own the characters you are posting about in your new thread, you obviously cannot control what happens to them during the course of the topic. You're character is not all powerful, nor should they act like they are (within reason for the personality of the Goa’uld obviously). If you are caught controlling other member's characters to influence the situation to your favor, you will be warned.
- Rule 4: Death is a part of life, unfortunately. Although it is very difficult to kill off a character in the Role-play, which I will get to, it does happened from time to time. Every time you enter a battle topic, whether a Main Story Arch or just a regular mission with another member, you run the risk of being killed in action. To kill off a character, however, is a rigorous process, especially if the member doesn't wish to be terminated. To officially kill off a character here on SGG, it must be approved by two (2) admins and both must post within that topic saying that their character would logically die under the given circumstances.
- Rule 5: If your character is killed during the course of the Role-play, you may submit a revival of the said character one (1) week after s/he was killed. In reviving your character, all prior credits and inventory of your character will be erased and s/he will start brand new, with nothing at all. The revival process here on SGG is courtesy of the Goa'uld Sarcophagus, and depending on your faction, will be utilized by either the Goa'uld, Tok'ra or any given independent source. If your character's body is obliterated in an explosion, special Asgard cloning facility technology has been stolen by various factions for use to their respective members. For any of those weird and wonderfully obscure deaths, there are other means of revival that can be generated by the staff to suit specific needs. To revive your character, please post within the appropriate sub-forum to do so, and please follow the given guidelines posted within the forum itself.
Please note though, there must be a good reason for any revival to take place. If you are a grunt for some random military the chance that your character will be revived is slim.
- Rule 6: When posting in a thread with other members, you will always follow a specific posting order, regardless of if it is a battle topic or if it is just a friendly meeting between two fellow companions. When in a topic with three other people, and if you were the third one to enter said topic, do not post under the other two before you have done so already. This makes everything more fair, and also helps to cut down on the chaos that usually ensues when members don't get their turn.
- Rule 7: As stated above, double posting within a topic and breaking the posting order is a no-no. Unless said topic is a personal thread, please do not double post and break the order. If the posting order was Bob, Dick and then you, please don't post right after Bob does as this is clearly unfair for Dick, who has yet to post. Probably a poor choice of names there, but you get the picture... If you don't, however, please PM a staff member and they will attempt to make it more clear to you than it already is. Hopefully, after reading two rules of basically the same subject area, you will understand the point we are trying to convey to you.
- Rule 8: When entering a battle post where you are being assaulted or are doing the assaulting yourself, the defending party will have up to nine days to respond to the battle via a defensive post attempting to get out of the situation. If the defending party does not post a reply within the allotted time window, the attacking person/s will win by default and may choose how the battle will turn out by another post within that topic. This is the only time, other than if you are in a personal topic, will double posting be allowed on SGG. There should be no excuse for you not being able to get to the reply within nine days, and only under special extenuating circumstances will an extension be granted. The victor of the battle will be determined by the staff, as always, and any decisions made by the site's administration will be final.
- Rule 9: Please, for the sake of fairness and confusion, do not edit your posts after someone has already replied to the topic. If you edit your post and changes the terms of your environment, the person that is next in the posting order will be utterly confused one his or her reply has been posted. The only time when editing your post is okay after someone has already replied is if you are fixing spell, grammar or sentence structure. In all other cases if something needs to be edited, its best to notify staff and have them do it for you.
