Geographical Description:
Sparta is a relatively earth-like planet located on the edge of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy, quite close (relatively speaking) to earths own solar system. It is about 30% water and 70% land, but consists of only two major continents. The largest is called Agamemnon, and it is where the capital of Sparta, New Dorieus, is located. New Dorieus is a rather large city, for the Spartans at any rate. It has a lot of elements typical of ancient Greece, including the columns and the basic design of the structures. They, of course, have been modernized to resist things such as fire and earthquakes, but they are still mostly open to the elements, and are fairly widely spaced. The city itself covers a large swath of land, even in comparison to the cities of Earth, but none of the buildings are as tall as those of Earth. The total population hovers, at present, at around two and a half million people. New Dorieus is the only city currently on the planet, however there are three minor settlements of Velonians who have survived the planet’s many trials.
The fauna on Sparta consists of a range of creatures similar to Earth's, but with an extra dimension. The planet is host to a number of large predators, ranging from a cat-like creature similar to a saber-toothed tiger, but with less fur and a like for a more temperate climate, to a number of large reptilians similar to dragons of Tau'ri myth. Much of this continent is comprised of volcanic islands, both large and small, forming chains all around the larger land mass.
Points of Interest:
- New Dorieus; the Capital City of Sparta. This city also houses a stargate facility build in much the same method as the Tau’ri. Harthar, having visited the SGC, saw the tactical advantage in having a base built that way and thus implemented such a base on his own planet.
- Eternus Ancientus; the buried Spartan City-Ship that is the centre of Spartan Military operations within the Galaxy. It is home to over a million people and is constantly in a state of repair and betterment. It is equipped with an Experiemental Advanced Artificial Intelligence that has been imprinted with the persona of Harthar.

History:
Once an advanced civilization, Sparta was completely destroyed by the Ancients, who were punishing the Ancient Orlin for aiding the Spartans in defending themselves with advanced technology. Sparta was under siege by an opposing force. Orlin, through seeing their suffering, allowed them to take advantage of powerful Ancient knowledge, specifically leading them to develop an enormous "space gun." After using it on their enemies, the Spartans turned it on themselves. Subsequently, the Ancients wiped them out and Orlin was banished to Sparta to live alone for the rest of his existence, as punishment for going against the Ancients' rules of non-interference. Orlin was only recently released from his punishment, though that was before the time of the Spartan Occupation.
