.:: Stargate: Galaxies - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) ::.
This is where you can find answers to most of the questions you might have about the site. If there is a question you have that is not listed in the ones below, please do not hesitate the ask any of the staff members.
.:: What is Stargate: Galaxies? ::.
Stargate: Galaxies is a Stargate-based RPG site in which you can choose a character to play in either of the two galaxies and take part in what you have seen in the television series (Stargate: SG1 and Stargate: Atlantis) as well as the movies. Members are allowed to express their creativity for the series in a relaxing and fun environment.
.:: It’s my first time on the site. Where do I go? ::.
Members should always be aware of what is occurring on the site and should know the rules. Here is a list of links that you should visit to keep yourself up to date on all pertinent information:
Rules and Regulations
Character Registry
Faction Headquarters
Galaxy Forge
Main Storyline
.:: How many characters can I have? ::.
There is no limit on the number of characters that you have, so long as you are able to keep all characters active. There are a few stipulations about characters, however. For one thing, you must create a new account for each character, since a money code is currently in place, and each character must have his/her own profile created.
You are also allowed to have NPC’s (non-playable characters). These are characters that you control to be such people as officers on your ship, relatives, etc. You can have up to three NPC’s per character account. However, please note that NPC’s cannot kill other playable characters, cannot collect bounties, and can only be controlled by those you give permission to.
.:: What are credits, and how do I use them? ::.
Credits are issued for the posting done In Character (IC). For every post you do, in a completed thread, in the RPG sections, you receive 10 credits. With each completed thread of more than ten posts and of an average standard of writing ability, further credits will be awarded ranging from hundreds of credits to thousands. If you post at least a few times each week, every character of yours that you have posted with will receive an additional 200 credits for that week. Additionally, your activity contributes to the amount of credits your faction receives; the more active you and your fellows are, the more credits will be attributed to your faction funds to be done with as your faction leaders require.
To use your credits, you can visit any of the appropriate faction store(s) for your particular character and purchase items that can help you out in your roleplaying. Stores can be found in the Faction Headquarters. Please follow the rules in each store when purchasing items.
.:: My character has been approved, now what do I do? ::.
There are a few different things you can do once your character has been approved. For starters, make sure that you have been given the faction forum password for the faction you have signed up for. If you have not received it, ask either the faction leader or one of the admins, and it will be sent to you via PM. A second thing to do is to speak to your faction leader about rank. This is especially important for those who create Tau’ri characters, or whose characters are a member of a particular faction that has a structured military ranking system. Once those two things are taken care of, you are welcome to RP in any of the given forums available, within your respected galaxy.
.:: Where and what can I post? ::.
After your character has been approved, you can post in nearly any forum available to you within your chosen galaxy. Usually, most members will post in either the independent or uncontrolled planets forums and within their faction specific planets. As for what you can post, that is up to you, but there are a few things available such as missions (check your faction forum) and bounties.
.:: Can my character travel between both galaxies? ::.
For most characters, the answer is no. Only Tau’ri have the ability to travel freely between the two galaxies because of their ships and the use of the proper gate addresses. Characters from other factions are unable to because their ships do not have the intergalatic (or between galaxies) hyperdrives that would allow them to be able to do so. A suitable power supply is also required. Until those are achieved, in RP, travel between galaxies is nearly impossible.
.:: What is the Did I System? ::.
The Did I system is a way to obtain answers to battle posts, mission posts, and other posts that would require an outside source to produce an answer. The set up goes as follows:
(Asking the Did I)
... YOUR POST ...
Did I's:
What damage was done to the ship after my attack?
... YOUR POST ...
Did I's:
What damage was done to the ship after my attack?
(Staff Member's Response)
Answer: You were able to take out the sublight engines and drop the ship from 100% to 94% hull strength with your attack.
Answer: You were able to take out the sublight engines and drop the ship from 100% to 94% hull strength with your attack.
Whilst a staff member will always read the entirety of your post, it is best to always provide a Did I if you require an answer to ensure nothing is missed and no mistakes are made. Another precaution to ensure that a staff member knows that you have a Did I that needs to be answered is to submit them in the Summon the Staffer, or STS, topic and following the instructions there. Please note that staff members have 24 hours in which to get to the topic in order to answer it.
.:: Can I create custom technology or original planets or species? ::.
You are able to submit custom technology, such as ships and weapons, as well as introduce original planets or species. Everything you need to know about can be found in the Development forum. All submissions will be reviewed by the staff and voted upon, usually within a 48 hour period of time. Submissions that are approved will be placed in the Lore forum; those that are not approved will be placed in the Denied Submissions forum.
